S05E15 (Jan 10th)  The Vinyl Garage Infirmary!   What better way to greet the cold, snowy, flu and cold season with a solid lampooning, of music. There’s a surprisingly large number of songs that can full fill the theme this week, a song about an amphetamine pusher to the stars (“Dr Robert” The Beatles), a 1965 song referencing putting your doctor in your will to pay your medical bills (“Doctor,Doctor” The Who). A doctor that rocks (“Doctor Rhythm” The DC5), a self-medicating wife/mom (“Mother’s Little Helper” The Stones), come down with a dose of “Love-Itis” (J Geils), “Cat Scratch Fever” (Ted Nugent), and “The Rockin’ Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu” (Aerosmith). Are you 98.6? (“A Question of Temperature” (The Balloon Farm) and “Fever” (Southside Johnny). A trip to the drug store with “Mr. Pharmacist” (The Other Half), and when it’s all said and done “Feelin’ Allright” (Grand Funk Rail Road), and much more! (download)Shortcode

S05E09 (Nov 29th)    It’s unfortunate that when a woman picks-up an instrument in a rock band , they are considered a novelty act, but that didn’t stop many from trying to break into the music biz in the 60’s and 70’s. Just like the guys, the ladies formed garage bands all over the country, most releasing self-financed records on small indie labels, with some getting the notice of the majors. This weeks Garage presents the garage bands( The Bittersweets, The What Four, Raylene and Blue Angels, The Liverbirds, the Mod 4), The majors( Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Fanny) and into the 70’s( The Runaways, Suzi Quatro, Pat Benatar, Pretenders, and Patti Smith).  (download)Shortcode

S05E08 (Nov 22nd)   I could have chosen any number of “fluff” male singers to lampoon, but I chose Engelbert. Even the name he picked (his real one was Arnold Dorsey) caused us to dismiss him as pointless, a entertainer whose sole ambition in life was to work on a cruise ship (I was going to say a theme park, but I have too much respect for those at Cedar Point). Other artists include The Rubinoos, The Spokesmen, 999, The Raiders(Paul Revere and….), Flo and Eddie (The Turtles) and more. (download)Shortcode

S05E07 (Nov 15th)   Vinyl Garage goes back to the movies, featuring rock music from the films of the 70’s from 1970’s “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” to 1979’s “Apocalypse Now” along with “The Warriors”, “Vanishing Point”, “Son Of Dracula”, “Performance”, “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and more…… (download)Shortcode

S05E06 (Nov 8th)  The Garage goes to the movies beginning with the first appearence of a rock n roll song in film (1955’s Blackboard Jungle with “Rock Around the Clock”) to 1969’s Easy Rider, stopping along the way at the films of; Hard Days Night, Ferry ‘Cross the Mersey, The Trip, Riot on Sunset Strip, Head, The Magic Christian, and more. Save your ticket stub, it’ll get you in to next weeks show( Rock in the Movies in the 70’s) for free. (download)Shortcode

Paul died in a car crash on Wednesday morning at 5AM on Nov 9th 1966 and was replaced by the winner of a Paul McCartney look-a-like contest. The surviving Beatles used the albums to leak audio and visual clues to the fans to quiet their guilty conscious. Ridiculous, right? or was it? The VG explores the clues from Beatles albums; The White Album, The Beatles Again(Hey Jude), Yellow Submarine, Abbey Rd, Anthology 3, and from the solo lps Lennon’s Imagine, and Paul’s Memory Almost Full. You’ll need to dig out your copies of these records so you can follow along with the visual clues.Shortcode
